Today we mourn the loss of Hans Peter Ganzel. Originally from Goting on the Insel Fohr, he was a founding member of the Foehrer Musik Freunde in 1967. His tuba playing drove the beat of the band for over 50 Years. The band affectionately referred to him as "our Duba player".
Peter was more than a driving force with his tuba playing. Through the years he undertook many projects for the band. Whether he brought in new music, brought equipment to various performances or being the inspiration behind our junior member movement.
His perspective, stories, and hearty laugh will be missed.

In 1967, a common bond brought together 14 men with a plan that started from nothing more than the love of the German folk and brass music of their homeland. These men wanted to continue playing the music and to keep alive the German musical tradition that they enjoyed in Germany; that first meeting lead to the formation of the Foehrer Musik Freunde.
Since that time our members have dedicated themselves to keeping that sound alive. We are proud to say that many of these original musicians are still playing with the band today. Our current group of musicians comes from various nationalities and spans three generations. We all share the same love for the music and its traditions.
It is with great pride that we have spread our Gemütlichkeit at many festivals in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida and Germany.
Keeping brass band music (Blasmusik) alive....one fest at a time!
